  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish from University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia (2004-2008)
  • Masters in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois (2008-2010)
Kyla completed her Masters in Speech-Language Pathology in Chicago and then worked for several years in the school system with children with articulation and language disorders as well as stuttering and learning difficulties. During this time she also chaired a committee focused on implementing school-wide strategies to improve reading and writing at the elementary level.

Following her work in the schools, she worked in a private pediatric clinic with a wide variety of diagnoses, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and feeding disorders. She also provided Early Intervention services through the State of Illinois, targeting children from birth to three with language and learning difficulties.

From 2014 to 2016, she worked at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, providing services to both children and adults in an outpatient clinic. In this setting, she worked with a variety of acquired disorders, including aphasia, dysarthria, dysphagia, voice, and cognitive-communication.

She is an active member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). She is also certified in the Sequential Oral Sensory (S. O. S.) Approach to Feeding.

During her undergraduate studies, Kyla studied abroad in Valencia, Spain. Having always had an interest in second language acquisition, and looking to expand her clinical skills in a new setting, she moved to Madrid in 2016 to focus on providing services in a multidisciplinary and multicultural setting. Her own journey to learning Spanish as a second language has driven her interest and competence in accent modification for professionals wishing to improve their English accent.
