Throughout her childhood, Itxaso has experienced several international moves (Germany, Switzerland, and France). She knows first-hand what it is like to adapt to a new culture, international school (British School of Paris, International School of Zug…), new friends, and the academic and personal efforts that both children and parents have to make.
While studying psychology, she became interested in the role of the psychologist in situations of emergency and crisis. This led her to complete a specialist course in Crisis Intervention at El Teléfono de la Esperanza. After a two-year internship during her Master’s in Clinical Psychology from the Universidad Pontificia de Madrid, she was selected from among the students to join the Psychosocial Intervention Unit´s (UNINPSI) professional team. Itxaso continued her clinical training and gained two years’ experience assisting patients with Eating Disorders in the Sanatorio Dr. Esquerdo, in Madrid.
During this time, Itxaso has had the opportunity to join UNINPSI´s team, teaching and supervising internships for students studying the Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas. She has also delivered a course in "Relaxation Techniques" at this University.
Currently she combines her private practice at SINEWS with counselling services at The British School, King's College School of Madrid. Her dedication to clinical psychology and therapy has recently led her to train as an EMDR Therapist.
Itxaso has experience and training in fields as varied as enuresis (difficulty controlling urine), anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, and the execution of a variety of psychodiagnostic assessments in both English and Spanish.
