From the beginning of her career, Irene felt a deep interest in working in international environments, which is why she studied Clinical and Health Psychology in bilingual modality (English) at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM).

This concern to get to know other cultures up close was born during her summer experiences abroad by living with native families, thus being able to know the way of living firsthand. In her memory, she treasures memories of London (Canada), Cork (Ireland) and Oxford (United Kingdom) as well as of the hosting families.

While coursing her 2nd year of high school, her Philosophy teacher cultivated her curiosity towards a better understanding of human behavior and how to help people finding meaning and knowing more about themselves.

During her undergraduate internships, she collaborated with the Instituto Psicobiológico de Madrid, a private institution specialized in Emotional Intelligence. Once she finished, she was invited to stay and continue working on personality profiles assessment from 2016 to 2019, obtaining the Master in Emotional Intelligence and Behavioral Intervention. This experience made her more aware of the limitations and strengths that our nature prints on us and of how we must take them into account in any therapeutic process. Bearing in mind that asking the patient to stop being who he is, it’s not an option.

While coursing the Master’s Degree in General Health Psychology, for which she was awarded the UCM Excellence scholarship, she accumulated experience with patients at the University Psychology Clinic of the Complutense University of Madrid and also at the Neuropsychology Interconsultation Service of the San Carlos University Hospital of Madrid, learning about neuropsychological evaluation in elderly patients (cognitive impairment assessment).

Once she completed her qualification as a Health Psychologist, she moved to the Balearic Islands, where she developed a psychological assistance program aimed at improving the well-being, motivation, communication, and work performance of NOBU Hotel Ibiza Bay workers. There, she understood the importance of helping employees adapting to what cannot be changed and to mobilize their personal strengths to enhance their well-being.

As a cognitive-behavioral-based therapist, she had the privilege of practicing as a psychologist at the University Psychology Clinic of the Complutense University of Madrid, where she enjoyed continued university professors team supervision as well as a training program that included Brief Strategic Therapy techniques, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Image Rewriting training and its application to clinical cases. Likewise, she was able to experiment with the virtual reality treatment of various phobias: public speaking, flying, punctures, insects, heights … by using Psious program and virtual reality glasses, a method that surprised Irene for its effectiveness and ease of application.

Irene’s main areas of expertise are anxiety disorders, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and personality disorders. She has also developed teaching and research work, being trained by Professor Mª Ángeles Quiroga Estévez in the application of assessment protocols for Intelligence and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adolescents and adults.

As a therapist, she considers herself a close person, capable of feeling the other person, who sits down to draw the problem with the client so that he can change what is happening from a deeper understanding.
