  • Degree in Psychology. Autonomous University of Madrid (2013 – 2017)

Julia Ekker, daughter of a Dutch father and a Spanish mother, grew up in an international environment and since childhood has experienced the challenges that come from a multicultural identity. She studied primary in a Dutch school and secondary in a Spanish high school, adapting to completely different educational systems. In addition, prior to university, she lived in Cambridge, United Kingdom and Cape Town, South Africa where she worked as an educator for an international cooperation programme.

Having always showed an interest for different cultures and customs, Julia has volunteered for over 15 years in different international programmes which promoted peace, tolerance and understanding between nations. As a volunteer she had the opportunity to work in countries such as Jordan, Denmark, Egypt, and the Philippines. In her native Spain, she has also worked with American university exchange students to help them adapt to the new culture.

This interest in meeting others from different cultural backgrounds and a curiosity towards understanding human behaviour led her to study Psychology in the Autonomous University of Madrid. During her studies she specialized in Clinical Psychology and interned at the University Hospital of Virgen de las Nieves in Granada where she had the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team on severe mental illness. Moreover, she collaborated in a research group focused on studying therapeutic change through behaviour analysis, an experience that aroused a desire to deepen her knowledge in Behaviour Therapy.

During her master’s degree, Julia acquired a wide practical experience through the observation of cases and intervention on a great variety of problems from anxiety and or depression to self-esteem or social skill issues in children, adolescents and adults.

Julia combined her graduate studies with work in the field of human resources, where she addressed problems related to the business world (stress, communication skills, leadership skills, etc.) and further confirmed her vocation for clinical practice. It was then that she began the master’s degree in General Health Psychology at the National University of Distance Education, doing her internship at SINEWS.

Currently, she combines her work as a Clinical Psychologist with her role as a School Psychologist at King’s College School of Madrid.

Julia is enthusiastic about people and their potential. Helping them overcome their problems has become her passion and guiding them in their changing processes is something she feels is a privilege. To do this, she never stops learning, training, and updating herself in different psychology branches with empirical evidence in order to offer an affective and individualized service adjusted to each person.
